Our church organized a summer fair at the church hall last Saturday. It was the first time for me to join the summer fair. I think it is fun as I can immerse into the British life and understand more about the culture. For example, it is the first time for me to come across the term of Pantomine. There was a singing performance by the Sandiway Pantomime Group. I dont know what Pantomime is but Lis told me that it’s a very English thing. What I can say is it is like a comedy-based drama but particularly for children. Their next performance is in Jan 2009. I hope I can see this show and understand what it is. Also, there is a game stall called Tombola. According to the online Longman dictionary, Tombola means “a game in which you buy a ticket with a number on it in order to try and win a prize that has the same number on it “. It is like a lucky draw game.
The church summer fair can reach the whole local community and let them know about our church. Sisters and Brothers in Lord are very enthusiastic in helping the game stalls and food stalls. It reminds me the teaching from Jesus – ”to serve but not to be served”. It attracted a lot of families to come and share the happiness of the day.
For me, I volunteered and stationed at the Raffle Ticket Counters. In the end of the day, we have raised a lot of money which is the church funds for future extension scheme and other activities. Thanks Lord for your abundant supply.
